ABOUT
SJSP

MISSION & HISTORY.

Since 2015, Social Justice as a Spiritual Practice (SJSP) has been a catalyst for transformational change, intertwining mindfulness with social justice efforts. Our mission is to nurture relationships and establish the necessary infrastructure to champion racial justice. In a distinctive move, we secured a 501c3 religious status in 2020, uniquely positioning peaceful protest as our primary tenet, setting us apart from most religions worldwide.

The Importance of Peaceful Protest as a Primary Tenet

The evolving, restrictive definition of peaceful protest poses a risk to activist rights. However, SJSP's approach provides an added layer of protection under the 1st Amendment's religious clause due to our primary tenet of peaceful protest. This is especially crucial in light of the numerous anti-protest bills introduced since 2021.

Why This Matters

The significance of this tenet lies in its ability to offer additional legal protection to activists, as it frames peaceful protest as a political act and as a religious one. This unique positioning challenges the traditional use of religious ideology for political gain and sets a new precedent in the intersection of spirituality and social justice. This innovative approach redefines the intersection of spirituality and social justice, offering a new perspective on the role of religion in societal change.

The narrow definition of peaceful protest threatens activist rights. However, SJSP's approach offers an extra layer of protection under the 1st Amendment's religious clause, crucial amidst the anti-protest bills introduced, since 2021. We aim to address the challenge posed by the use of religious ideology for political gain.
